The only ventral acute muscle of abdominal segment 8. Is ventral/anterior end is inserted into the A7/8 intersegmental apodeme. Its posterior/dorsal end is inserted near the base of the posterior spiracle, which retracts when this muscle contracts (Campos-Ortega and Hartenstein, 1997. (Bate, 1993, Campos-Ortega and Hartenstein, 1997)
