md-L [FBbt_00047313]

Mechanosensory multidendritic neuron that innervates the labellum (Zhang et al., 2016). There is one of these innervating each of the two bilaterally symmetrical labella, extending to the bases of many, mainly L-type, labial sensilla (Zhang et al., 2016). This cell expresses the genes Transmembrane channel-like and Transmembrane protein 63, which are required for different aspects of its mechanosensory function (Zhang et al., 2016; Li and Montell, 2021). Its cell body is in the proximal part of the labellum and its axons project to the subesophageal zone, innervating a region distinct from that innervated by gustatory receptor neurons, such as those expressing Gr5a (Zhang et al., 2016).
